The Youth Justice Coalition (YJC) is working to build a youth, family, and formerly and currently incarcerated people’s movement to challenge America’s addiction to incarceration and race, gender and class discrimination in Los Angeles County’s, California’s and the nation’s juvenile and criminal injustice systems.

This group works to prevent individuals suffering from depression from hurting themselves. Its website lists local chapters and support groups for suicidal individuals and those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Freedom From Fear

This organization's website contains self-screening tests for anxiety and depression and provides free professional counseling to individuals who take the test. Its website also lists support groups in each state and allows users to search for physicians in their area.

MoodGYM

This website teaches cognitive behavioral therapy skills to individuals suffering from anxiety and depression.

E-Couch

This website contains diagnostic modules that allow users to determine if they should seek medical help. It also explains and teaches cognitive and behavioral therapy techniques and relaxation methods.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

This group aims to increase awareness about mental illnesses and improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from them. It defines and describes depression and anxiety and discusses the types and components of medications used to treat different illnesses on its website.

National Institute of Mental Health

The NIMH is the largest research organization in the world committed to understanding the treatment and prevention of mental disorders. It funds research "to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure."

American Psychological Association

The APA is a professional organization of psychologists. Its site explains how psychologists work with you to alleviate symptoms and offers information on how to manage health and well-being while coping with depression and anxiety.

American Psychiatric Association

The APA is a medical society whose members work to ensure that persons with mental illness, including substance use disorders, receive humane care and effective treatment. Educational material is available on their site, as well as help finding a psychiatrist.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance

The mental health arm of the CDC is a good source of public health information on mental health.

CFHK collects and distributes cards to give to hospitalized kids around the US. You can send in handmade cards, and even earn service hours doing it.

Dream Factory

The Dream Factory is the largest children’s wish-granting organization that does not limit its mission to children who have life-threatening illness. The organization believes children with chronic illnesses and disorders also suffer from substantial emotional and physical pain. We strive to provide hope and relief from the trauma and corresponding stress and depression that both the children and their families can endure on a day-to-day basis.

Heart Hugs

Heart Hugs brings comfort to cardiac patients undergoing open heart surgeries. Heart Hugs sends pillows worldwide with the help of a volunteer network. Heart Hugs also provides compression heart pillows to the children at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. If you or child you know needs a compression heart pillow, , contact them! You can also volunteer.
